Eleven agrometeorological stations in the Pelagonian region

Eleven agrometeorological stations are located on open agricultural arable land in the Pelagonian planning region in order to improve and modernize the agricultural economy, which will provide better information to farmers on parameters that are essential for agricultural production, as well as modernization of access to that information, within of the project "Innovations for the promotion of agriculture". In this way, the protection of the environment will be enabled through the introduction of modern technologies in agriculture.

- These new stations will be used for collection, processing and display of meteorological data as well as providing timely information on the onset, duration and intensity of attacks of individual diseases or pests on crops, which will allow precise determination of the deadline and method of treatment. The idea is with the help of these stations, farmers to receive timely information on their smartphones or on the computer by accessing the website, weather conditions, humidity and air pressure, when the time is right for irrigation, when there is a risk of disease and the like. , which in turn will enable the improvement of the way of cultivation and treatment of agricultural crops as well as the measures for environmental protection. The project is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, while the total value of the investment is 2.5 million denars, said the Minister of Local Self-Government, Goran Milevski in Resen.

In addition to the 11 agro-meteorological stations in the municipalities in the Pelagonian planning region, a software program for administration with the data from the stations has been developed and installed in all the administrative centers of the stations.

- In this way we provide advanced management of environmental protection measures in the agricultural sector by using data from stations in order to prevent excessive use of chemical reagents, unnecessary irrigation and the like. The implementation of good agricultural practice is also improved by timely use of renewable energy sources, appropriate use of agro-technical measures, adequate amount of nutrition and other benefits of new technology in order to facilitate seasonal agricultural practices. It also provides easy access to information on climate change for proper management of crops by using data from stations that will contribute to effective management of the schedule of agro-technical measures and the use of chemical additives and fertilizers, explained Milevski.

An info campaign was also conducted on the benefits of the project and the results from the stations using the new technology and dissemination of printed promotional materials on how to use the stations and their data.

- I am very pleased with how the agrometeorological station works, which is located in a great location because it shows all the benefits and information that can be generated for local farmers and citizens. Such projects benefit literally everyone, both farmers and high school students. By involving the citizens in cooperation with the Ministry of Local Self-Government, they all make decisions together decide on which projects to invest in the regions, which is a great example to be followed in the future, said Sibil Suter, Ambassador of Switzerland.

- The installation of the agrometeorological station METEOBOT is of great help to our farmers and plays a huge role in modernizing the process of apple production in the Prespa region. The agro-meteorological station is not accidentally placed in the orchards of the municipal high school "Tsar Samoil", because this school educates our future agricultural staff and that is our investment in the future, added the mayor of Resen, ZivkoGosarevski.
