At the second joint session of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Government of the Republic of Albania, in which the Minister of Local Self-Government Risto Penov participated, the benefits of cross-border cooperation, financially supported by the IPA instrument of the European Union, were highlighted. The projects that are being implemented in both countries through the North Macedonia-Albania Cross-Border Cooperation Program are important for the development of the region and have a direct impact on the improvement of living conditions in the municipalities on both sides of the border. Within the second program period, 20 joint projects with a total value of 10.1 million euros have been approved and implemented. Cross-border cooperation between the two countries will continue in the third program period, until 2027, which is an extraordinary opportunity for both countries to implement strategic projects that will facilitate communication and cooperation between the citizens of the two countries and encourage development in the region. Through the implementation of joint projects, the two countries are working together on the development of the region and on fulfilling the conditions for as soon as possible integration into the European Union.
