The Minister of Local Self-Government Suhejl Faziu, today has met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to the Republic of Macedonia, Carlo Romeo.

At the meeting were discussed about the priorities of the Government in the sphere of local government, and the decentralization process, for the regional development and ongoing activities and projects.

Minister Fazliu has informed the  Ambassador Romeo about the activities of the ministry that he leads, with the commitment to continue the process of decentralization of power as the fundamental pillar of the democratization of the society by giving an additional opportunity to the municipalities for administration but at the same time greater responsibility for fulfilling the demands and citizens' rights at the local level. Also Mr. Fazliu underlined EU-supported projects and other European institutions to improve the capacity of municipalities to provide more quality services to citizens, as well as activities related to balanced regional development, highly valued the assistance which is offered to the ministry in this regard to the citizens of Macedonia in general.

The Ambassador Carlo Romeo stressed that Italy has always been a great supporter of Macedonia in the Euro-Atlantic integration process and such a practice will continue in the future as well.

Also at the meeting also was discussed the advancement of cooperation between the two countries, especially for the exchange of experiences in the sphere of organization and functioning of local government in the Republic of Macedonia and Italy. Minister Fazliu thanked the ambassador for the visit and expressed readiness for further cooperation in the future.
